Hello September listeners!
In this episode I speak to Beau, from Kent in the UK.
She has identical 7 month old boys, Max and Teddy, and is very fortunate to have them both after a very long and difficult pregnancy journey.
She speaks of the 12 week scan surprise but then at the same time, also being told there was a problem with Twin 2. More shocking news followed…
Beau had to be monitored every week, see medical specialists and professors, because of serious growth complications with Twin 2 (Teddy), until at 23 weeks she was reassured that whilst it was still a very risky pregnancy, they not need to operate to preserve Twin 1 (Max) only.
After they were born at 30 weeks via emergency Caesarean, both boys were in NICU for numerous days and Beau found herself on auto-pilot, expressing her milk, juggling the hospital drive 45 minutes away, working, housework, mothering her two girls and felt quite detached until Max and Teddy were both finally home - she then had her breakdown.
She openly and honestly shares her twin mama journey including the need to cry everyday, reach out for help, go on antidepressants, see a therapist, and get the right support for the twins special needs.
Her weekly self-care includes a reiki session, which I was very pleased to hear, of course!
Her courage and mama strength to find her flow again is very inspiring and I am sure many can resonate with her initial struggles.
Beau’s story brings shivers at how close life and death can be, even in the womb.
